Akaluck has nearly 15 years of experience in the social sector serving nonprofits, NGOs, and unions by providing services ranging from community organizing and political campaigns, to grant management and face-to-face fundraising.
Akaluck started his social impact career as a community organizer in low-income communities in Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Des Moines. After his experiences as Executive Director for Iowa and Minnesota ACORN, he later worked with Iowans for Social and Economic Development (ISED) as the Statewide Program Director for the Free Tax Preparation Program for low-income, elderly, and disabled populations. Akaluck then moved on to serve as the Colorado Field Director for SEIU International, the Board Chair of the Colorado Immigrant’s Rights Coalition, and the Fundraising Manager for Oxfam International's face-to-face fundraising program in Thailand.
Akaluck grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A, and is the son of two Thai immigrants. For several decades, his family owned the only Thai restaurant in the Des Moines, and it became a well-loved institution throughout the city. He spends his free time with his family, and also walking his very furry dog, Stanley.
